TSPTR

TSPTR is an acronym standing for Truth, Symmetry, Pleasure, Taste and Recognition, the five design principles of Louis Sullivan, American modernist architect, designer and 'the father of skyscrapers'. His viewpoint was that 'form should ever follow function' and TSPTR subscribes to that ideal. TSPTR's garments channel the history of American counterculture and sub cultures, exploring politics, music, protest, pop culture and war. TSPTR has a passion for clothing with meaning, each TSPTR piece has both great design & great story.

      $175.00 $350.00

Officially designated ‘Coat, Mans, Combat, Tropical’, Natick Labs originally designed the US Army tropical combat jacket and trousers in 1962 for the Vietnam War. The single-breasted jacket was made from 5½ oz. wind-resistant cotton poplin in OG-107 and featured two slanted chest cargo pockets and two lower cargo pockets. The design also boasted epaulets, waist take-in tabs, pen pockets behind both chest cargo pockets and an inner gas flap that was designed to prevent chemical agents leaking through the front button closure. The tropical combat uniform was ideally suited to the Vietnam War because it was both lightweight and quick drying, but it's exposed pocket buttons had a tendency to get snagged in the jungle so subsequent versions were developed. TSPTR removed the epaulettes and gas flap and shortened the length to create a less fussy hybrid. The same weight (5½ oz) and quality poplin as the original has been reproduced and then overdyed using natural dye in their signature Aloha print.

During the late 1960s Charles M Schulz, creator of the comic strip Peanuts, was becoming increasingly concerned by world ecological issues and began including messages of conservation into the Peanuts strip. The "Plant A Tree" message came off the back of the first Earth Day in 1970; this was an age of ecological awakening. The message, still prevalent today, is in the hopes that a new tree will clean the air and provide a shady spot for a picnic, but first we have to plant it, water it, and watch it grow! The premium weight, certified organic cotton is made with water based ink and features a ribbed neck, cuff and hem.
