The Red Wing Shoes 8833 Hawthorne Abilene is an archival leather that was first introduced by the American footwear brand in 1959. In 1989, it debuted in the Japanese market as a limited edition 6-inch Moc, sold with the Irish Setter branding. The material in this style was hugely popular and has been iconic in Japan ever since. Now, for the very first time, Red Wing brings it in line and offers it globally.

The Classic Moc was first made by Red Wing in 1952. In the decades since, it’s grown into one of the most beloved lifestyle boots in the world. Originally made for sportsmen, the boot quickly grew into a favorite of farm and factory workers for its long-lasting construction, steady traction, and all-day comfort. The Classic Moc’s beloved features live on today, as the boot is built with the same pride and process now as it was then. Moc toe construction and the iconic Traction Tred rubber outsole lead the way, and Puritan triple stitching and a storm welt for additional water resistance. The classic design is comfortable anywhere from rugged hikes through the wilderness, to stomping around the city.

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage footwear should fit comfortably tight on the foot, with enough room to freely wiggle toes. As you wear the footwear, the full grain leather upper, insole, and cork midsole will mold to your feet, creating an increasingly personalized fit over time.

The special roughout leather on Red Wing's 8833 style is often compared to suede, but there are important differences to note. Suede is made by splitting off the grain, which makes the leather thinner, weaker, and more susceptible to scuffs. In contrast, Red Wing roughout leathers are full-grain, meaning the grain structure remains intact and retains its strength. Roughout leather is often considered to be the most durable due to its naturally water-resistant qualities and easily cleanable surface texture. This leather type develops a beautiful, worn-in patina over time, making this a boot that can be worn during spring, but easily transition and complement darker fall styles too.
